 During the next month I will be blogging about herbal teas.  I will also post articles on smoothie recipes and the health benefits of fresh juice. As well as the health benefits of fruit and veggies. The last section will be about old folk remedies.

Herbal tea is an infusion of leaves, seeds, or roots. In drinking herbal tea daily, we get all the plants benefits.  Herbal teas contain an amazing amount of powerful vitamins and minerals. Some herbal teas can lift depression, improve your skin, relief asthma protect your heart,  clean your liver, help with diabetes, protect you against cancer, promote weight loss, prevent morning sickness.
Oh yes, there’s even an herbal tea to help with fertility. Read which herbal tea you should drink daily, should you have a health problem, or to protect you from developing one. Herbal teas can help to detoxify your body thereby aiding you in losing excess weight. By drinking herbal teas daily it will help you get all the nutrients and antioxidants your body needs. You may vary the herbal tea every week. In this way you will get the benefits of the different teas.
Herbal Teas
Alfalfa Herbal Tea
Alfalfa Tea has been used in folk medicine, like most of the other herbal teas.  It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antioxidant properties. Alfalfa contains vitamin E, C and vitamin K as well as potassium, calcium, iron, phosphorous, magnesium and chlorine. This tea stimulates the appetite and promotes weight gain. The dried white cardamom flowers and the seeds are used in making the herbal tea.  It has a sweet and aromatic flavor. The seed of this herbal tea contain antioxidant properties and it fights free radicals in your body. It is rich in vitamin A, B and C. and riboflavin. This herbal tea detoxifies your body. Cardamom tea is used as a bladder and kidney remedy. Cardamom herbal tea has been used as an aphrodisiac in old folk remedies.                                       This herbal tea is good for women to prevent mood swings during their menstrual period. How to make Cardamom Tea
four cups of water. two teaspoons of tea leaves
two cardamom pods
cup of milk
sugar as required
Boil water in kettle
Pour the boiled water in saucepan.
Add tea leaves, seeds, milk and sugar.
Boil again. Remove from stove and let stand for five minutes.
Catnip Herbal Tea also known as Catmint Tea
Catnip leaves and flowering tops are used. Catnip has anti-bacterial properties. It’s anti-flatulent, which relieves indigestion, colic and nausea, arthritis and rheumatism.  Catnip is soothing for bedwetting children.  Catnip works by assisting the expulsion of intestinal gas and relaxing muscles.Catnip contains vitamin A, vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12 as well as choline and inositol. Choline protects the liver and can aid in the reversal of liver already damaged. Inositol helps to prevent panic attacks. Research indicates that inositol may have cancer fighting properties.  Minerals in catnip tea, is sodium, manganese, phosphorus and magnesium.  Catnip acts as a sedative and stomach tonic.
How to make Catnip Tea
1 tsp dried catnip leaves. Cup of boiling water
Pour the boiling water over the catnip.
Let stand for five minutes.
Add honey to taste.
Cayenne Pepper with Lemon Juice
Cayenne pepper opens up the arteries to restore normal blood flow to the heart and may help to prevent a heart attack. It also regulates your blood pressure. Cayenne Pepper tea and lemon boost your metabolism and thereby help you to lose weight. Cayenne Pepper and lemon juice both have anti-fungal and immune boosting properties.
How to make Cayenne Pepper Tea with Lemon
Place a teaspoon of dried cayenne pepper into a cup of hot water.
Add the juice of half a lemon.
Cover and let stand for three minutes. Drink.
Celery Tea
Celery contains vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin B1, B2, and B6.  As well as the minerals, calcium, manganese, iron, folic acid, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and fiber. Place one teaspoon of fresh celery seed, in a cup. Add hot water.
Let stand for ten minutes, covered. Strain the tea. Drink.
 Chamomile Tea
Chamomile Tea contains vitamin C and B1, as well as the minerals, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, copper, iron and zinc. Potassium keeps the heart beat regular. Chamomile tea contains anti-inflammatory properties. This herbal tea is good for rheumatism and arthritis. Chicory Tea has the ability to aid the body to absorb calcium, which maintains strong bones. It protects the body from inflammation. It keeps the liver and gall bladder healthy. Place two teaspoons of roasted chicory root in a cup. Add hot water. Cover. Let steep for five minutes. Add honey. Drink.

How to make cinnamon tea
Place two cups of water into pot and place on stove.
Add one cinnamon stick, broken into small pieces.
Slowly bring water to boil.
Remove from heat and let steep for fifteen minutes.
Strain the tea through strainer and add sugar and milk as required.
Reheat and drink.
Method Two
Put cinnamon stick, broken into pieces, in a cup.
Add boiling water. Add teabag. Leave for fifteen minutes.
Remove teabag and use strainer to remove the pieces of cinnamon stick. Add sugar and milk.
Clove Tea
Cloves are anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-septic. They are packed with antioxidants that can neutralize free radicals and protect us from diseases like cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, arthritis and other serious illnesses. Cloves contain vitamins, such as folic acid, vitamin C and vitamin K, as well as minerals such as omega 3 fatty acids, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, copper, iron, zinc and selenium. Five cups boiling water
Bring to boil and simmer for thirty minutes
